The Pink Ladies raise $30,000 for local breast cancer programs and CRN announces new Medical Director.
As guests entered the ballroom at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL on Saturday October 11, 2008, they were welcomed by The Pink Ladies of Cancer Research Network, Inc. and transported back to the days of poodle skirts and drive-in’s! The evening, appropriately titled “A Night at the Hop” began with over 75 fabulous raffle and auction items on display for guests to browse while they listened to tunes from the 50’s and 60’s. While guests sampled 50’s diner goodies, Dr. Charles Vogel, world-renowned breast cancer specialist and opinion leader, announced that after 11 years, he would be passing the baton of Medical Directorship of CRN to Dr. Stefan Gluck, Director of the Braman Family Breast Cancer Center at University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Gluck gave a poignant off the cuff speech about how far breast cancer treatment has come due to the strides research has made. Guests then were inspired by a brief movie celebrating CRN’s heroes both breast cancer patients and survivor’s. To get the party started, swing dancers from Swing Affair took the floor to get the crowd going. Former Majic 102.7 DJ Tom Caminiti (The Tall Italian) spun the songs of that era which packed the dance floor with guests showing off their best moves down a stroll line. CRN was excited to see that so many guests got in the spirit by dressing in their 50’s best! The night was truly a success on every level as supporters visibly enjoyed themselves, awareness was raised about the importance of research and a net of $30,000 was generated to support programs of research and patient advocacy.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's 3rd Annual Health Fair: October 3, 2007
On October 3, 2007, Cancer Research Network, Inc. was thrilled to be a part of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s Third Annual Heath and Wellness Fair that was held at their Hard Rock Live Venue in Hollywood, FL. The focus, with October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, was on maintaining good breast health and knowing the risks of developing breast cancer. CRN staff spoke with attendees, both male and female, about the importance of self-breast exams and even had prosthetic tools on hand to help them understand the proper technique to self-examine as well as what to look for. Each visitor left with a handy CRN Self- Breast Exam reminder bookmark and packs of pink M & M’s. Having face-to-face contact and opportunity to genuinely discuss the importance of self-exams, risk factors, and early detection with each attendee made it such a special event. Many thanks to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for providing such a great service!
